12 May

Screen Shot 2014-05-05 at 9.02.52 PMThe next event from The Sauce is here. We’re partnering up with Kitchensurfing again– the place to find local chefs to cook for you at home. Join us on May 20th, as Chef Sara Bojarski creates a seasonal, “Americana”-themed 4-course menu with May’s freshest offerings. Sara is a photographer & blogger-turned chef who attended the Institute of Culinary Education.

Sara chose each course based upon the wine selections of the evening, from Wine Awesomeness, a curated wine delivery service on a mission to fight the common misconceptions about wine.

We’ll dine at Kitchensurfing’s Headquarters in Brooklyn. Get your tickets here.

The Sauce’s Winter Whiskey Feast Recap

14 Jan

On January 9th, 2014,  The Sauce hosted a hearty winter feast created by Chef Nikki Martin of Season 8 of The Next Food Network Star. She paired Whistle Pig Whiskey with a rich duck dinner (from Maple Leaf Farms) comprised of 5 courses, including items like Crispy Duck Leg, Duck Meatballs, and a Kale Salad with poached egg and SlantShack Jerky. Nikki  put a spotlight on Atsby Vermouth, using the liquor for cocktails as well as through the courses.

The dinner was held in a Fort Greene space, a converted stable, which was decked out in Claudia Pearson Illustration‘s goods, from framed illustrations to aprons and tea towels.

This event was made possible by Tabelog, an online space to share and discover inspiring dining experiences.

Thank you to our sponsors and those who dined with us. Check out the gallery of images from the dinner, and stay tuned for future events.

the-sauce-final-logo-100113If you’ve been following Becoming Brooklyn and have attended my meetup events, you probably know that I love getting people together. That’s why I want to introduce you to my latest venture, a lifestyle club called The Sauce.  It’s for those passionate about food, wine, mixology, art, and music. It connects its members with a curated social experience, including access to dinners with star chefs, cocktail parties with top mixologists, and introductions to up-and-coming artists and musicians. The Sauce helps members discover new places, products, and people.

It’s kind of like a supper club… but with more– like art, music, and wine and mixology components. Our first event takes place on November 14th, a Harvest Supper at Atelier Roquette, with cider from Wolffer Cider, ice cream from The Brooklyn Bell, produce from Local Roots CSA, and rides from Uber. We’ll have four local artists on display from Ground Floor Gallery, and even some music from Brooklyn musician Kyle Lalone. The Harvest themed supper will be designed and cooked by the chefs of Homemade and Roquette Catering, Monica Byrne and Leisah Swenson. While seats are full, please let me know if you’d like an invite to the next event.

Join the Local Roots NYC Supper Club.

22 Jan

In a food rut? Awaken your taste buds and try something new with my favorite CSA, Local Roots NYC. The group holds a supper club spotlighting chefs and local ingredients. On Wednesday February 1st, the group will host their third supper club with guest chef Matthew Leif of Landhaus. Held in the beautiful exposed brick mezzanine at 61 Local, this dinner sits 30 and will feature a four course menu with ingredients from the CSA’s  farms and other neighboring farms.

The star of the show will be the apple. Each dish will show the versatility and wide range of flavors of apples, one of the few fruits that are available in the winter season. The meal will include a starter, a first course, a main course, and a dessert. Get your tickets here for an amazing meal with some good company.
